Benton, MO (October 3, 2022) – Three people were injured as a result of a chain reaction crash that occurred in Scott County that involved a pedestrian. On October 1, troopers from the Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to the scene of a crash on Interstate 55.
Reports from authorities show that a 2014 Nissan Altima was stopped in the roadway following a collision on the southbound side of Interstate 55 near mile marker 82 at approximately 9:40 p.m. For unknown reasons, a 2017 Chevrolet traverse crashed into the Nissan, causing the Nissan to move forward and strike a pedestrian on the road.
The pedestrian, 39-year-old Souliman Mohammed, suffered moderate injuries. EMS responded to the scene and rendered aid to Mohammed, the driver of the Nissan, 53-year-old Twylla Roderick, and the driver of the Chevrolet, 67-year-old Cecelia Schiwitz. All three victims were transported to St. Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau, for emergency medical care.
Investigations to determine the cause of the crash are underway.
