Car Accidents in Missouri

Arbyrd, MO – Woman Transported to Arkansas Methodist Following Crash on Highway 164

Crashes frequently occur in the state of Missouri. Quite often, they result in serious injuries for those involved. Even though no two accidents are alike, there are similarities in the causes. Leading causes of crashes that we see in Missouri include:

  • Distracted Driving: Distracted driving is the leading cause of car accidents in Missouri. Each year, distracted driving is responsible for more than 30% of all motor vehicle accidents in Missouri. This includes both drivers who were using cell phones and drivers who were talking or texting while driving. Distracted driving is a serious safety issue because it can lead to crashes and injuries.
  • Driver Error: Driver error is the second most common cause of car accidents in Missouri. Driver error includes things like speeding, not paying attention to the road, and not following traffic rules. These types of accidents can be fatal due to collisions with other vehicles or objects on the road.
  • Weather Conditions: Weather conditions can play a role in car accidents, especially if they cause drivers to lose control of their vehicles. For example, icy roads can lead to spinouts and collisions, while heavy rain can make roads dangerous to drive on.
  • Failed Safety Devices: Poorly installed or malfunctioning safety devices can also cause car accidents. These devices include seat belts, airbags, and windshield wipers. If these devices fail, it can increase the risk of injury in a crash.
  • Road Conditions: Poor road conditions can make driving difficult and dangerous. This includes areas that are wet, icy, or bumpy. Poor road conditions can also lead to collisions between vehicles.
